The Shadow Knows

First, there was a sprinkle. Then, there was a light rain that had started to fall upon the tour group as we were approaching Shadow and Sugar. We huddled together under the large branches of a tree that offered little protection, but everyone was happy as Shadow was sitting in the rain, blinking his big eyes at us. "Meow," said Shadow. I wasn't listening to Shadow at first as everyone was chanting, "Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day." It was obvious he wasn't going to be ignored and wanted to share something only The Shadow Knows.

As he continued to talk, and I noticed a trickle of water sliding down the small hill that soon became a stream. Everyone was focused on the rain going away, but Shadow. "Why is everyone wanting the rain to go away?" Shadow asked. I laughed and said, "It makes for a bad hair day." Shadow proceeded to get up and walk towards the small hill that the rain was making smaller as the dirt was carried away. Focused intently upon something, he lowered his head to check it out and looked back at me. I could barely see the green sprouts that were peaking through the layers of dirt the rain was clearing.

"Rain is good," Shadow explained. "Don't wish it to go away. Look. It washes away the layers of dust and dirt so the new creations that are trying to break through, can do so easily." As Shadow and I looked at the new growth, I wondered if this was the reason why every culture and generation has stories about creation that involves a flood. Me thinketh I want to know what The Shadow Knows.

Natasha's Beauty Tip

Natasha, an extremely beautiful Siberian Lynx, knows the price of being beautiful. There is a high price associated with extreme beauty. Natasha came from a fur farm that raised cats for the sole purpose of "harvesting" them for their beautiful fur. In addition to her beauty, she also has a distinguishing black tipped tail that can help us see her. She understands how people look only to the outer physical appearances to "harvest" information about the beauty they are observing.

Close your eyes and see Natasha standing before you. Take a deep breath and let go of any thoughts you have about her. Now, look closely at her tail. Notice the black tip. Natasha wants you to know the tip is only a small part of something much larger that lies beneath the surface. Seeing beyond her beauty is a loving and affectionate spirit. She is smart and understands what is important in her life. Her life is serving a higher purpose to awaken us and show us where we lack understanding about beautiful fur. She is a BEING, not a cat with beautiful fur that can be used solely for economic gain.

Taking time to go beyond the tip of anything will provide you with a different perspective and provide new eyes in how you look at things. Thank Natasha for sharing with you a beauty tip that will help you see beneath the surface and realize the ONENESS of all living creatures.

I have never met a stranger. I often sit and watch people as they come by to see me. I will make you feel welcome to the sanctuary. You may think I am exquisitely beautiful, but it is my coloring that makes me stand out. I am very grateful to be here. I am in high demand because of my beautiful coat. I am very affectionate even though you would think a cat my size would be aggressive. I can give you a tip that will help you guess Who I Am. Think of black.

Auroara's Imperfect Choice

Auroara loves to come and greet guests on the tours. It doesn't matter if her hips hurt, and her eyes are crossed, she is in continual movement. She knows she is not perfect, but has chosen to experience her life from a loving place within herself where perfection does not exist. She asks if one of your goals in life is NOT to be perfect? If not, Auroara wants to help you take life less serious and have more fun.

If you are ready to embrace your imperfections, Auroara is ready to share with you how imperfection is a prerequisite to experiment, experience and learn in life. Find a nice pond or lake and sit at the edge of the water. Auroara chuffs as she watches you close your eyes. Relax and reflect to see if you are in a habit of trying to be perfect. If so, one way Auroara nudges you out of this tendency is to look at your life and notice that no one is judging you to see whether or not you are perfect. Perfectionism is often a holdover from your childhood which is an ideal you inherit from a demanding parent. It is time to let this go as you choose to release the need to perform for someone else's approval.

Auroara's life has changed more than it has stayed the same. She reminds you that perfection may happen in a moment, but it will not last because it is an impermanent state. Perfection is just another illusion that dissolves as you realize this fact. Send Auroara a heart hug as she has helped you to remember who you are, and by embracing your imperfections, you embrace yourself.

I know how to "play" the tour groups. It is one of my favorite parts of the day. Even though I don't move too good, I like to run and hurry over as you walk the path. I can come out of nowhere and surprise you. It won't be hard to find me in the water as I am free to move and it feels so good. I don't see things right, but I don't miss anything. I bask in the attention I get and greet everyone who comes to see me. Hear my chuffing, and you will know Who I Am.

Cha Cha's Cardio Exercises

Peeking from behind the thick palmetto leaves, two eyes are fixed on me. I stop and wait to hear what this small cat has to say. She is quiet and patiently waits as I ask permission to talk with her. Cha Cha, a jungle cat, has beckoned me to listen to what she wants to share. No visible movement can be detected and yet....

Feelings swell in my heart as I see a squirrel bury a nut that will soon grow to be a tree. Swirling leaves fall around me as the trees release the old, making room for their new buds. Knowledge becomes another's as Shadow meows what he knows to those passing by. A range of emotions have been felt as I know Cha Cha has shared a perspective of nature's spiritual exercises that she feels is cardio for the soul.

Simple workouts for the soul as we plant new ideas that produce new ways of BEING, clearing out what no longer serves us, imparting wisdom to others we have gleaned in our life as our hearts expand and grow strong is soul cardio-nature's way of helping us remember who we are.

Hercules Unchained

The snow had been falling for several days. Even though the snow leopard's fur had grown longer, cold penetrated his belly as his broad paws continued to sink deeply into the layers of the white, wet drifts. He was prepared for the harsh winter weather and knew food would be scarce. A few days earlier, the snow leopard picked up the scent of a herd of goats making their way through the lower parts of the mountain. He continued to stalk the herd, observing the perfect opportunity to kill his prey as this meal could be the difference in his surviving the winter.

As the storm worsened, one of the goats lost his way and separated from the herd. The snow leopard had not eaten in a long time and was desperate for food. The goat never felt the snow leopard's claws dig deep in his skin as he was immediately killed. Conserving his strength, he began to devour the goat.

After two days of slowly eating the goat, the scent of a man alerted the snow leopard he was in danger. The shepherd of the flock was searching for his missing goat. Even though the snow leopard was still hungry, he surrendered to the approaching threat without reservation and moved on in search of another opportunity to eat.

My heart sank as Hercules shared with me the vision of the snow leopard. "Surrender is not giving up," Hercules said. "It is a simple act of wisdom in which you yield to the flow of life instead of resisting it. There was no inner resistance from the snow leopard to take action in the present moment. Acceptance of what IS connected him with BEING." Hercules knows by surrendering, you recognize the highest and best course of action to take in the present moment.

Cybil's Wishes

Remaining true to her nature, Cybil, a beautiful serval, has not lost sight of who she is. Even though she has lived in a Cat-A-Tat for a while, she remains wild. It would be easy for her to settle in and become close to people, but she has refused to forget her nature. Cybil is ready to help you remember a very important part of your nature that you may have given up as you pursued what the world expected of you.

Curl up and ask Cybil to join you as you close your eyes and relax. As you relax, visualize blowing dandelion seeds into the air. Feel the inspiration to make a wish and whisper the desires of your heart into the ears of the universe. There is something innocent and magical about making a wish, something that recalls the energy of childhood. Wishing inspires an innocent opening to the possibility of magic as we wait to see if the invisible realm will bring our wish to life. We place ourselves in a magical mind, and this mind is just as wonderful as the fulfillment of our wish itself. It is an aspect of our nature we tend to dismiss as a passive process. Yet, do you remember the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for?"

Cybil brings back the magical aspect of our nature as she encourages you to look up and see the first star of the evening or standing in front of a birthday cake covered with flaming candles. Give yourself the gift of this magical realm that you knew so well as a child. With eyes still closed, open your mind and make a wish as you remember who you are. Send Cybil a special wish as you thank her for revealing your magical nature.

I am not the friendliest cat, although I will greet you. I don't like people much and prefer to stay by myself. You may think I am mean, but sometimes I don't feel good. Sunshine makes me feel good, and I can sleep for a long time. I don't move too fast, but when I get enrichment, I will hurry to see what it is. I am still wild even though I have been living at the sanctuary for a long time. I will not be tamed. Can you guess Who I Am?

Amazing Grace, our poet ocelot, is providing provocative thought as she shares with us another original poem from her heart.

Look deep within my eyes,
A tear is forming as my heart cries.
It won't take long for you to see,
a spirit trapped and wanting to be free.

You sleep though you dream you 're awake,
Fooled completely as you continue to take,
The soul of another being whose different in form,
Considered to be without feelings becoming your norm.

Captured within tiny cages you put me in,
Mindless thinking that I am not your kin.
I can't be who I am and neither can you,
If you don't remember we're One instead of two.
